Hi Jim.
You do not need any tools to remove the pump. Make sure to manually drain as much of the water out of the tub as possible. Unplug the washer before you attempt to repair it.
Remove the wire connectors from the pump first. Do not take out the screws for the mounting plate. There is a simple release tab that you depress, and then twist the pump outwards away from the center until it stops, then simply pull it down and out. This is a job that should take 5 minutes.
